It’s no secret that we’ve been Barbie-obsessed at Charm HQ this year! And we’re also in awe of Margot Robbie’s commitment to the Barbie aesthetic on the pink carpet when promoting the film. She wore the “Solo in the Spotlight” look to perfection, and I was inspired to create a similar Halloween Extravaganza creation using one of our easiest-to-sew Charm patterns.
Create your own Solo in the Spotlight Barbie costume with the Sophia Dress, black sequins, and all the bling you can find!

Dress Instructions
Extend the Sophia Dress pencil skirt pattern to mid-calf. Cut the dress in black stretch sequin fabric, omitting the straps. Since the dress is strapless, you may need to take it in at the neckline edge to get a snug fit.
Finish the neckline with wide plush elastic (3/4- to 1-inch wide will be appropriate for most bust sizes). Apply the elastic to the right side of the sequin fabric, then turn the elastic in so the sequins aren’t touching the skin.
Finish the dress as usual, adding three to four rectangles of stiff black tulle to the hem edge. Each rectangle of tulle should measure the length needed to reach your ankle by four times the circumference of the pencil skirt hem. Sew each rectangle into a ring, then layer on top of each other. Gather the upper edge and sew to the hem of the dress. Steam and separate the tulle layers to create body.
Tack a big faux floral rose to the top of the flounce.
