Recommended Fabrics

For this design, we recommend: PW8 Power Mesh from the Classic Collection at Blue Moon Fabrics. The PW8 Power Mesh is a 90 GSM four-way stretch mesh. The fiber content is 92% nylon with 8% spandex, with 35% horizontal stretch and 20% vertical stretch.

The PW8 Power Mesh is very similar to the power mesh sold by Fabric Wholesale Direct, which is what we used when testing the pattern. The FWD power mesh is a 100 GSM four-way stretch mesh. The fiber content is 90% nylon with 10% spandex, with 35% horizontal stretch and 20% vertical stretch.

Every stretch mesh is different, so if you are using another fabric, we highly recommend creating a muslin of the Zelda Overlay using the exact fabric you intend to use for the finished garment. Using a fabric with a different stretch percentage, GSM, or spandex content than the one we used may mean the overlay will be tighter or looser than originally designed.

We recommend underlining the Zelda Skirt with the same fabric used to underline the Lamour Dress bodice if making a dress. This will help create structure for the skirt and support the overlay.

Underlining the skirt is also recommended if creating a skirt separate with the overlay. Underlining the skirt flounce is optional.

Notions & Supplies

• Stretch mesh for the Zelda Overlay
• Thread to match
• Underlining fabric for the Zelda Skirt
• All other materials and notions listed for the Lamour Dress strapless bodice and/or the Zelda Skirt, except for the zippers
• One 18-inch invisible zipper for a dress or one 8-inch invisible zipper for a skirt separate
• 2 yards (1.8 m) of 3/8-inch-wide (1 cm) clear elastic for a dress. Less elastic will be needed for a bodice only or a skirt separate).

Measure yourself around your upper bust (under your armpits and above your breasts, without a bra on), the fullest part of your bust (while wearing your preferred bra), the smallest part of your waist, and the fullest part of your hips (this is likely around the fullest part of your butt). Make sure to hold the measuring tape snugly and parallel to the ground. Compare your body measurements to the size chart.

Find your upper bust measurement on the size chart to find your garment size, and then scan down the cup sizes in that garment size column to find your cup size. For instance, a 37-inch upper bust will make you a size 10, and a 39-inch full bust means you need a B cup. Don’t worry if your waist doesn’t match the size 10 column’s measurement of 32 inches; you can grade the waist in or out as needed. It is most important to choose a size to fit your upper bust and cup size, as the waist is easier to adjust up or down.

Sewing pattern sizes are very different from ready-to-wear garments and bra sizes, so be sure to work with your measurements when choosing a size.

Charm’s 2-20 size range is designed for a body with an hourglass shape. Our 18-34 size range is designed for a body with less waist definition.
