Modern June Cleaver Holiday Skirt Pattern

Our last guest artist of the year, Amanda from Modern June Cleaver, has created a charming and versatile holiday skirt for you! Using vintage embellishment methods, you can create your own Christmas tree skirt (like Amanda) or wearable circle skirt (like me). I know you’ll love learning about these felt applique techniques!

Amanda made her Christmas tree skirt using the free Charm Circle Skirt and a vintage-inspired color palette, with lots of gold fringe. We sewed my version as a wearable circle skirt (using the Stanwyck Skirt pattern) in traditional Christmas colors with a little extra pink.

We’ve included PDF files for both making your appliqués by hand, as well as SVG files for using a Cricut or Silhouette die-cutting machine.

I’m so excited to share with you the Wanda Pencil Skirt, in sizes 2-20 and 18-34! It is the perfect separate destined to become a tailored staple in your wardrobe, and it mixes with our Lamour-series, too!

Inspired by Wanda Woodward from the movie Cry-Baby, the skirt is destined to bring out your inner bad girl with its thigh slit up to there (with or without invisible zipper for adjusting from day to night).

But of course we’ve given you options! Omit the thigh slit and go for the couture-worthy back vent, and it’s a perfectly elegant princess-seamed skirt for day or night. We’ve shown you how to fully line the skirt with a back vent, an advanced technique that will take your sewing to the next level.

Brooklyn Jacket Pattern

Meet the Brooklyn Jacket! Yet again, I’m bringing you something inspired by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, since I know you all just can’t get enough of her looks. Midge never shies away from a fabulous jacket or coat, and as costume designer Donna Zakowska wrote in her excellent book Madly Marvelous, “her rainbow closet of coats became inseparable from her persona.” Likewise, she has a whole collection of little jackets to coordinate with her dresses and skirts.

The Brooklyn Jacket is a fully lined and fitted jacket in two lengths, with two versatile sleeve options. Make it in a cropped version with darling covered buttons and an open front or in the waist-length version with a sophisticated front button closure. With an optional faux welt breast pocket and pocket square, you have many mix-and-match opportunities to sew your own elegant fantasy! The SewRena Collection was inspired by my love of versatility and creativity. I admired how styles from the past included interchangeable accessories like collars, dickies and cuffs to give staple wardrobe pieces new life. I’m so excited to share the darling Carousel Dress with you! Inspired by a true-vintage dress I spotted during one of my Dapper Day adventures, it’s extra lovely with stripes and directional prints.

Ginger Sailor Pants Pattern

Meet the Ginger Sailor Pants! For this design, I was inspired by none other than fashion icon Ginger Rogers. The singer/dancer/actress rose to fame in the 1930s, staring in over 70 films over her four-decade career. While your first thought of Ginger may be of her floating over the dance floor in a silk gown, her casual styles continue to influence fashion today. Fred Astaire even said of her, “Girls love to wear slacks when learning or rehearsing a dance. Ginger always wore them for rehearsal. In fact,…I [was] so used to seeing Ginger on the rehearsal stage in slacks that one day when she showed up in a dress, we didn’t know who she was.”

These classic sailor pants are a year-round staple. We know you love having different options, so we created a traditional version with a functional front flap as well as an easy zip-up-the-back style that pairs perfectly with the Lamour, Landis, Liz, and other Charm bodices to create a sublime nautical-style jumpsuit or romper.
